Therefore, sustainable agriculture is concerned with developing an environmentally friendly and efficient food production system that eliminates the waste of limited natural resources and prevents the land from losing fertility while producing adequate yields year after year. It is still important to produce enough food today, but it is imperative that substantial agriculture be a factor in the decline in fertility and the depletion of natural resources, particularly soil and water. This simply emphasizes that agriculture is a hard business to stay in and that to make it more sustainable is to make it even more difficult. However, the level of difficulty involved should not deter us from this endeavor because the potential results will definitely outweigh the problems farmers might face today. Every year the total area of ​​agricultural land gradually decreases because the land is being consumed by rapid development. Right now, the US can produce more food than it needs and this can probably continue for several decades, but without radical action, the aggregate supply of food in the global economy will decline. One of the possible solutions to this problem would be government support in the form of lower taxes for farmers. This would help people stay in business longer and focus more on environmental issues. For agriculture to be more sustainable, farmers must use natural resources more efficiently. Some advanced cultivation techniques must be employed to maintain soil fertility at a certain acceptable level and prevent it from deteriorating. They also need to control the amount of fertilizers used in the process, thus producing products that are healthy and safe for consumption. Currently, the situation is far from perfect, but it is going in the right direction with the government beginning to recognize the importance of this problem and providing support to farmers.
