Preakness Travel Letter

The Kentucky Derby is in the books. One horse won and now he or she is the favorite (usually) in the second Triple Crown derby race: The Preakness. It is a three-year-old Thoroughbred-run flat horse race and takes place every year two weeks after the Kentucky Derby and three weeks before the latest jewel in the crown, the Belmont Stakes.

This race takes place at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland and spans 9.5 furlongs. It was first raced in 1873 and is traditionally second in attendance to the granddaddy of all races, the Kentucky Derby.

If you live near Maryland, it’s all too easy to see the fastest three-year-olds in action, but if you have to fly, you’ll always have to deal with commercial flight production, unless of course you choose to charter a plane for get you and your party there on time and in style.

Chartering a jet is cheaper than you think and best of all, you can choose your own schedule. Forget long lines trying to get through security and being crushed in your seat for hours at a time. Not when you rent. Charter planes give you ample legroom, shoulder room, elbow room, and head room, and you can usually configure the seats any way you like. There’s entertainment at your fingertips, a kitchen for snacks or meals on the go, and the security of knowing your bags are with you at all times. No baggage carousel for you!

You will arrive refreshed and happy and in time for the singing of Maryland, My Maryland and the country party which is always a great time. After the race you can see the painter climb on the weathervane to paint the winning colors on the horse and jockey that adorn it. Heck, you’ll even be there to see the winning horse get his blanket from Black Eyed Susan’s, Maryland’s state flower, though they can’t use real flowers since they don’t bloom until July. That can remain our little secret…

Unsurprisingly, the mega star of the horse racing world, Secretariat still holds the speed record for the Preakness Stakes. She won in 1:53 in 1973, which was her middle Triple Crown race. Now you too can be a star… when you choose to rent.
