Great part time business ideas for students

Hey students, here are some great small part time business ideas to earn you some extra money. You no longer have to be penniless or bother mom and dad every time you need some money.

It is a fact of life that students are known to be short of money most of the time. But it does not have to be like that. With some smart thinking, a little hard work, and perseverance, a part-time business can do the trick. Here are some opportunities that I would recommend to the student. These businesses can be started with little or no capital and require little or no training. They are virtually certain to generate additional income and can be sold once the student graduates and begins a full-time job.

typing service

Provide a typing service to other students. Offer to write their assignments, resumes, theses, etc.

Auto Detailing

If you have a flair for graphics and design and love cars, then you might consider offering a detailed service to vehicle owners. In addition to putting up impressive graphics, you can also detail company vehicles and trucks by putting up logos, signs, or advertisements.

car sound installation / auto protection

If you are good with electronics and sound, you can consider this opportunity very lucrative. You can get alarm units or sound equipment directly from the manufacturer or wholesaler and put up a small surcharge if you want, but your best income would be the actual installation charge.

tutor

If you’re really good at a certain subject, you can tutor kids at the school in your area. You can do this at his house or yours. You will charge an hourly rate.

Nanny/Babysitter/Elderly Care

Childcare is an old part-time opportunity, although it is still very popular and in high demand with parents who need to take time off. This one is suitable for women.

A house sitter is someone who will live in and care for a house while the owners are away. This would be suitable for guys, since girls can be afraid of living alone in a house.

elderly care

This consists of doing some household chores, picking up groceries, taking the elderly for medical check-ups, etc. You must be a caring and patient person with a lot of compassion for this opportunity.

gardening service

This can be a great and lucrative opportunity if two or more students partner up. You will probably need a pickup truck for this one and some basic gardening equipment. Maybe you could borrow dad’s for a while, with his permission of course.

pool service

Similar to above, except you will be concentrating on pool maintenance.

handyman service

Here you will do odd jobs for homeowners who are too lazy to do it themselves. Things like fixing the doorbell, leaky faucets, changing a door, painting, etc.

disc jockey

If you are passionate about music, have a large collection of music albums, and possess mixing skills, then you might consider providing a mobile disco service for parties, birthdays, school functions, etc.

newspaper recycling

Collect old newspapers from your neighborhood and sell them to a newspaper recycling plant. You can expand this business by making old aluminum soda/beer cans as well.

dealer brochure

You could start a brochure distribution service for businesses in your area. You could hire kids part-time to help you with the actual distribution.

garage sale organizer

You can organize and run garage sales on behalf of homeowners who are too busy or too lazy to do it themselves. The sale will be made on site and you take a percentage of all successful sales. It also charges a setup fee.

Photography Service

If you’re good with a camera, then this opportunity might be for you. Take pictures of people and children in places like malls, resorts, minor league games, etc.

Flea Market

If you have something to sell that is truly unique, such as your own creation, then you could be very successful by setting up a flea market stall in your area.

delivery service

Many businesses, especially pharmacies and fast food outlets outsource their deliveries. Visit some and offer them your services.

Study Guides/Textbook Rental

If you have old study guides or textbooks that you no longer use, you can rent them out to students who can’t afford them.

sign writing service

If you’re good with graphics, then you could offer to make signs of all kinds for businesses. This includes work on glass store windows.

These are just a few lucrative ideas that I think you might want to consider. Look at the list, decide what appeals to you, plan and get started. Good luck.
