Two 2-0 NFC South teams meet on Monday Night Football at the Super Dome in New Orleans as the renovated stadium is back in business. The Falcons come to town after two big wins against Carolina and Tampa Bay and the Saints head into their home opener with wins in Cleveland and Green Bay thanks to a revitalized offense.

Bringing in Drew Brees has proven to be a good move early on, as his ability to stand in the pocket and shoot the ball accurately is something Saints fans weren’t used to seeing with Aaron Brooks at center. Reggie Bush has also lived up to all expectations and is already a true favorite on ESPN.

Why is Atlanta off to such a good start? The Falcons control football with the best running attack in the league led by Warrick Dunn and quarterback Michael Vick. Vick’s wrestling ability allows the Falcons to get third downs even when the defense stuffs the opening pass play. In other words, he maintains the momentum with his legs.

The Falcons are 16-6 against the Saints since 1995, but during that span, New Orleans hasn’t had an offense of this caliber and we need to seriously consider the possibility that there might be some magic in the air with this the first game. . the Saints have played in New Orleans since the devastation of the hurricane. The crowd will be electric, especially on Monday night’s stage and for their unbeaten team.

Penetrating Atlanta’s defense won’t be an easy task, however. The Falcons held the Panthers to just six points at Carolina in Game 1 and gave up just one field goal to the Bucs last week.

Despite dominating with their running game, the Falcons have struggled to end drives with touchdowns. Kicker Michael Koenen missed four field goals from inside 40 yards last week and is just two of eight on the season. This could be a problem for the Falcons in this case.

New Orleans’ defense will have a lot of work trying to stop Atlanta’s running game, but by the same token, Atlanta will have to be aware of all the different ways the Saints are looking to use Reggie Bush.
