Most people may not be very familiar with how to cook chitterlings. But the best way to cook southern-style chitterlings is to use the best southern seasoning. Not all southern seasonings are created equal and if you don’t use the correct southern seasoning then you could end up with really bad tasting chitterlings.

Chitlins, but for many the term chitlins is very common for them. But one might wonder what is really Chitterlings or Chitlins? The answer to that question is that the gut is really the intestine of a pig. Southern people have used it as a delicacy for years and now it has become commonplace in many households.

The best way to cook tripe southern style

If you are trying to cook tripe for the first time, you should be prepared to spend some time preparing it. The casings can be found in the freezer section of your local grocery store and can be brought home and thawed.

Don’t be surprised that it smells pretty awful. But don’t be fooled by the smell either once you’ve prepared it well, you’ll be eating so much that you’ll soon forget the taste.

Once you’ve brought it home and thawed it, now is the time to roll up your sleeves and clean your guts. The first step in the cleaning process is that you need to set aside some time to do it properly. Trying to rush this job will leave you with dirty meat that won’t smell delicious and flavorful.

Clean the guts

1. Soak the tripe in a pot of cold water for at least 20 minutes.

2. With your hands, you want to gently unroll the guts. To clean, you’ll use your fingers and a knife to remove any remaining grease and anything else that might make your guts smell.

3. Once this is done, you will put the tripe in a large pot with water along with baking soda and bring it to a boil. Once it starts to boil, remove from heat.

4. Pour the guts into a colander and add cold water.

5. Once this is done, you will do another gut cleaning.

Once the cleaning process is complete, it’s time to cook your tripe southern style. For the best flavor in your tripe preparation, you need to add the proper southern seasoning to your tripe.
