Bant or not Bant?

Should I go for the Banting diet? That is truly the question on the minds of so many. For people who want to lose weight, as well as people who simply want to lead a healthier lifestyle. All of us have different reasons for losing weight. It may be for health reasons, or simply because you want to look good. But there are also some of us who do these things to please people or the world. For years, men and women have lived with this struggle. It’s hard. You become so despondent and miserable that you don’t lose weight, instead you end up losing yourself and your personality. You feel sorry for yourself and gain more weight by making yourself feel better, eating what we call “comfort food”. The challenge is real.

Everywhere we find people struggling with the fight to lose weight, with all the different diet plans and tablets on the market. So I ask again. To Bant or not to Bant?

Dr. Tim Noakes, sports scientist and local advocate for the Banting diet, appearing in court doesn’t help skeptics’ reservations. However, when we look at the success stories of those who follow (and followed) the diet, we find that there might be a method to the madness.

We noticed the opening of Banting restaurants in urban areas. We noticed Banting options for burgers, pizzas, and many more popular foods. The diet seems to have caught on with society. A diet that, in fact, dates back to the 1860s, when William Banting wrote a pamphlet called ‘Letter on Corpulence’, aimed at the public. In the brochure, he described the plan for the diet. A diet that he discovered worked for him after many failed attempts at alternative diet plans. I doubt Mr. Banting expected what would come of his brochure. People started asking the question we use to this day, “Bant?”. Such was the popularity that the Nordic countries still use the word “banta” as a verb for “going on a diet”.

Skeptics remain, however. There are many who have strong disbelief in the eating plan, labeling it simply “dangerous.” But science has not yet proven that it is dangerous or not. We have read and heard of many success stories, as well as incidents where the diet was not as successful.

So if you are one of those millions of people struggling with this fight, a tip from our side.

Lose weight to feel happy and healthy. If you do it to please the world it will never work because subconsciously you will be miserable. The diet has worked for many. But, if for some reason this wasn’t enough to keep the trend going, the simple marketing around the Banting diet has forced skeptics to begin to doubt. Consider trying the burger or pizza at your favorite restaurant. Having marketed to skeptics and given many options to believers, one thing is certain. Culinary establishments are definitely “banting”.
