Where is titanium used in sports?

When titanium is mentioned, people generally think that it is only used in major industries like aerospace, medical, or chemical. However, it is actually used quite frequently in the sports industry. This is because titanium is quite light and easy to shape. Therefore, it is perfect for sports companies.

The most obvious use for titanium in sports is in the racing industry. Titanium is used to make auto parts and being lightweight it is perfect for car racing. It can be used in your cars and does not affect the weight or stability of the racing vehicle. It will also reduce fuel consumption because it is light and does not need a lot of energy, which also reduces the impact of the vehicle on the environment.

Now, let’s take a look at the less obvious uses of the material in the sports industry.

outdoor sports

It is becoming more and more common for companies to make climbing, hiking and skiing equipment out of titanium. This is because the material is light and very strong. Climbers are even using titanium rock fasteners because they rely on the material so much. They must rely on their bras to support their weight and prevent them from sagging, if they slip while climbing.

For skiing, titanium is used for ski poles because they will be lightweight and aerodynamic for the skier. They have to carry the poles for long periods of time, and they don’t affect their speed or hurt their arms to carry them from the weight. For speed skiing, poles are briefly used to help with balance, so their light weight is of the utmost importance.

In other areas of sports, titanium is used in the manufacture of fishing rods, swords, fencing masks, boat equipment and parts, and even running shoes. Again, this is because the material is very light and malleable.

Rackets

Titanium is widely used in the manufacture of racquets, for racquet sports. With tennis rackets, titanium is used in the frame, and some manufacturers only use titanium for their rackets. This is because it improves the stroke and helps to forcefully change the direction of an object. If a player uses a titanium racket, they are more likely to hit the ball with the center of the racket and are more likely to use a greater amount of force.

The use of titanium in the manufacture of badminton rackets is also becoming more popular, but it is not as unique as it is with tennis rackets. You can still find a company that uses alternative materials, in badminton, although they are less and less frequent. Titanium is more profitable for companies that make racquets.

Golf clubs

If you watch golf, you probably already know that titanium is used to make golf clubs, primarily the head of the club. It is used because club heads can be made smaller and still have the same effect as having a club with a massive head.

Using a titanium golf head has been scientifically proven to improve player performance. They are more likely to hit the ball in the direction they want and can hit it farther.

Careers

Earlier, it was already mentioned that titanium is used to make racing cars, but it is also used for racing bikes. In pedal cycles, it is used to make the frame. Ask any professional mountain biker what their bike is made of and they will most likely tell you titanium because it is the lightest material available.
