Top 2 Ways to Lock GPS Tracking Devices

The only thing that can be assured with technology is that, as it progresses, our privacy is withdrawn. Many high-tech gadgets are great for spying, probing, and meddling with our daily movements and activities, and now it’s easier than ever for the average citizen to get into the game. GPS tracking technology is no different. This technology allows employers, parents, and jealous ex-lovers to track our movements as easily as logging into a GPS tracking system and as affordable as a monthly cable bill. As an individual, how do you get your privacy back? There are 2 effective ways to get off the GPS radar grid.

1. Buy a GPS jamming device

GPS Jamming devices work on the concept that if the signal cannot reach the GPS tracking device, then the tracking cannot be performed. GPS jamming devices work by sending a stronger localized signal that effectively blocks incoming tracking data so that the tracking device cannot see the signal in order to store the coordinates on the device. Then no tracking information is logged to the device because there is nothing to log. GPS jamming devices work within a small area and are effective in vehicles to block the signal to the vehicle’s tracking device, or they can be used on your person to block any GPS device you carry (such as a cell phone).

The main problem with these devices is that many localities prohibit the sale of these devices because they transmit signals at frequencies that the FCC does not like. Although these devices are only effective at close range, ownership of these devices is still prohibited. It is similar to having radar detection equipment in localities that have made it illegal. You can find places online willing to sell these jamming devices to anyone who is willing to risk getting caught with one.

2. Use good old-fashioned technology

Another way to interfere with GPS signals is to use some good old-fashioned technology … aluminum foil. If you can find the cables on the GPS tracking device, you can wrap the cables in metal foil (aluminum foil or some other type of metal foil) and it will be able to block much of the signal entering the device. The problem is that you have to know where the GPS tracking device is, and you have to know where the antenna cables are on the device. If the device is somewhere hidden in the car, you may have to do some digging to find it and it can be difficult to wrap the cables in aluminum foil.

Unfortunately, the ways you get your privacy back when it comes to being tracked via a GPS tracking device. Although your options may be limited, they are effective. The solution you use to maintain your privacy may be determined by where you live and the local laws in your area.
