The Pros and Cons of the Lonely Planet Morocco Guide: Book Review

If you like to travel like I do, I would agree that travel guides are one of the essential tools you must have. They are very useful in the sense that a great deal of time and effort has been invested in creating them to obtain accurate information. Some of them can be overly condescending and confusing at times.

I have learned from experience that it would be a huge mistake to hold onto them religiously as many travelers do, as most of them are often out of date even before they are published. It would really be nice to be able to get the most out of these guides, but trust me, you’d better learn to use them in moderation and trust your best judgment. Lonely Planet is an authority on creating travel guides.

Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of the Lonely Planet Morocco guide. I traveled to Morocco on a two week trip to experience the “Red City” and immerse myself in some kind of adventure and used the Lonely Planet Morocco guide to help me during my journey. I can’t speak French or Arabic, which made me rely solely on the guide, which was great because it contained basic phrases that anyone could use for basic communication, such as asking for directions.

The great thing about Lonely Planet Morocco is how the chapters and logistical information are organized. It also has good information on accommodations and how to get around the place. There are even maps in the guide that I think are pretty basic but really useful. I have heard some people comment that they find the map more confusing than useful. All I could say is “It worked for me.”

Well, there are a couple of things about it that I didn’t like. First of all, the Lonely Planet Morocco guidebook is extremely heavy and it would be a difficult task to take it with you. I was seriously thinking about ripping out a few pages, but ended up just photocopying the ones I needed. Another thing I don’t like is how Lonely Planet has devoted a significant number of pages to history and culture.

Sure, it’s interesting and informative, but I don’t think it’s practically useful for a road traveler. I think people would really benefit if Lonely Planet devoted more pages to information about restaurants in Morocco, activities, entertainment, nightlife, relaxation and the like, which I am sure many tourists hope to experience and get useful information. U.S.

I’d say the guide is helpful overall even though it has a couple of minor flaws. There is one more thing that I want to share and that I think is very important for you to know. There are some hotels and hoteliers in Fez that are using their exposure in the guide to promote their services and take advantage of some customers by raising their prices just because they appeared on Lonely Planet Morocco.

Visiting Morocco is one of the most memorable travel experiences I have ever had and although it is not entirely easy, it has been great! I have spent less time getting lost because I had a wonderful tool that has helped me research and make all the necessary arrangements that a traveler needs in advance. Lonely Planet Morocco is undoubtedly a great reference when it comes to travel, exploration and adventure.
