This is the one everyone is talking about right now. If you want to be on trend then high gloss designs are the way to go. High gloss is exactly what it says on the tin. They are highly reflective and shiny new doors and cabinets. When people see this kitchen design in a showroom, they immediately want one right there.
High shine = instant designer look
There is one thing for sure; If you go for a high gloss, you’ll instantly get that designer look. Your friends will see your new designer kitchen and want it for themselves. Throw a party and the envious glances will keep you smiling all night. Just be prepared to wipe off fingerprints as you walk, your guests just won’t stop patting your doors.
Will a high gloss design stand the test of time?
I’m not talking about quality here, I’m talking about style. Is your new shiny and modern kitchen suddenly starting to look dated and making you think “WHAT WAS I THINKING ABOUT?” This is always difficult. Think back in time and imagine some of the kitchens you remember having in the past or if you’re too young to remember (like me *cough* *cough*), then think about Grandma’s kitchen.
Personally, I have an image of very dark wood, a green Formica countertop and avocado green appliances. Oh yeah, that sounds pretty bad right now, doesn’t it? But when grandmother and grandfather installed the kitchen. I can guarantee they were the envy of all their friends, throwing parties, cooking up a black forest cake and prawn cocktail in their new avocado-inspired kitchen.
Well, that made for pretty depressing reading. So back to the main question. Do I think your new high gloss kitchen will stand the test of time? If done correctly it absolutely WILL DO IT
While I don’t want to upset anyone who likes the idea of a bright orange, green, pink, or red kitchen, or anyone who has already bought one, I think there’s a better chance of it coming out than black, white, or the cream. Not to forget, if you wanted to sell your house in a few years, your buyers might not like the idea of blood red kitchen doors.
If you like that bright color, paint it a lot on your walls or use accessories, not your kitchen doors and cabinets.
Given these two options, which would you rather do?
A. Paint a wall
B. Remove and install a brand new kitchen
Personally, I’d go with option A. But I guess there’s always option C. Smile and bear it because you have to. A high gloss white is almost guaranteed to match any color you want to throw at it.
affordability
“That’s going to be expensive” I think this is a natural reaction when you see a high gloss kitchen. But I can promise you that as far as Red Kite goes, it’s just as cheap as other kitchen designs. Behind that beautiful glossy exterior, it’s essentially the same as other kitchens.
