Eyebrows: Tips for Tweezing

Eyebrow Tweezers: To minimize pain, first numb the brow area, either with a baby teething pain prep or a numbing toothache prep or even some ice.

  • Hair can be smoothed first with a hair conditioner or shaving cream.
  • Steam your brows with a hot washcloth for five minutes or tweeze them right after a hot shower to open up the pores and make hair come out more easily.
  • Invest in a pair of professional tweezers for a clean, sharp pair every time. If you are serious about tweezing, buying a good quality pair is essential. (See resource box below)
  • Use natural light whenever possible.
  • First clean the area between the eyebrows by plucking the loose hairs.
  • Tighten the skin and remove the hairs as close to the root as possible.
  • Start in the direction of growth.
  • Shape your brows by plucking them from below rather than above to create a natural arch.
  • To close your skin pores after waxing, use an astringent or soothe irritated skin by applying warm petroleum jelly.

Shaping your brows: 3 steps

  1. First thin the brow, then slowly define the arch. The arc should reach the highest point above the middle of the iris.
  2. To determine where your brows should start and end, hold a pencil vertically against your nose. Where the pencil meets the eyebrow above the nose should be the starting point.
  3. Then, with the pencil still held against your nose, tilt it diagonally so that it rests against the corner farthest from the eye. That is the outer point where the brow should end.

Change the shape of your eyebrows

  • To avoid tweezing in a way that you later regret, first use a white eyeliner pencil to color in the areas under your brows that you think should be plucked.
  • If you don’t like the shape, remove the white eyeliner and draw again. Once you are happy with the shape, brush the hairs in the white area.
