Excessive Use of Crystal Meth by Babies Born to Mothers With Drug Addiction:

An addiction to crystal meth has been known to affect babies more than most of the other drugs. It is estimated that about one in every ten infants in the United States are addicted to it. The effects of this substance on a developing child can be devastating, especially when the baby’s life is in danger. Most babies born to mothers addicted to crystal meths have low birth weights and are underdeveloped physically. There have also been cases where newborn babies are born addicted to the substance during the delivery process.

Crystal Meth are highly addictive drugs that are usually injected. Because of its chemical makeup, it has the ability to stay in the system of the user almost all the time. It quickly enters the bloodstream and attaches itself to key organs. Once attached, these organs excrete large amounts of dopamine, a powerful neurotransmitter. When the levels of dopamine in the blood rise, it triggers the central nervous system and the pleasure centers in the brain to signal the user to search for more excitement and a high.

Use of Crystal Meth by Babies Born

Babies exposed to crystal meths in their mother’s womb are more likely to become addicted than babies who were born to mothers who were not addicted to the drug. When the drug is introduced to the fetus in its early stages, the baby is much more susceptible to its effects. As the drug continues to be used, the baby develops a tolerance for the drug. When continued use of the drug occurs, the baby develops a physical dependence on the drug.

Crystal meths are highly addictive drugs. Their chemical makeup allows them to stay in the user’s system for a long time before they are finally weaned off the drug. It is during weaning that the baby is at greater risk of developing drug addiction. Excessive drug use during the first year of life has been linked to severe mental health problems, developmental delays, stunted growth and even learning disabilities.

Treatment for these problems varies and depends on the child’s own situation. If there are other family members, the chances of successful treatment are better. However, it should also be noted that babies born addicted to the drug have a much more difficult time being weaned off the drug. Most of these babies require intensive counseling, supervision and drug rehabilitation to successfully wean them away from the drug.

It is not uncommon for families to try and help their baby recover from drug addiction. Unfortunately, many of these attempts fail as the drug continues to be used by the baby. There is no single drug that can be blamed for this, but it is important to note that it is possible for a baby to become addicted to crystal meths during birth. It is during the critical second year of life when doctors must be extremely careful not to expose the child to any form of the drug.
