Designer Sari Trends 2018

Sarees are an all time favorite for most of the people. Indian festivals and ceremonies are always occasions to wear a saree and they will be incomplete without one. Saree spells grace, elegance and femininity, a rare combination for any outfit. Each and every part or region of India has a saree fabric that is unique to that region. Imagine, the diversity it offers. Just as the fabrics of each region differ, so does the way the sari is draped. Kanjivarams, Benaras, Tussars, Gadwals, Jamdhanis to name a few with amazing color combinations and handwork, the variety and creativity on offer is simply amazing!

Indian art and indigenous designs and crafts are making a comeback, be it Madhubhani, Kalamkari or Pattachithra etc, Indian handicrafts, handlooms and handicrafts are highly appreciated all over the world. Now these works of art are being customized by designers and specially made into hand-woven sarees, making them wearable art. These designer sarees are certainly an extremely eye-catching statement piece. For example, Kalamkari art designs are extremely popular and versatile and can be done on both cotton and silk sarees. Kalamkari designs feature mythological figures, designs and motifs from nature. Trending this season is Kalamkari Sarees with storytelling on raised pallu designs where the story starts only at the edge and spreads to the rest of the sarees in the form of storytelling, surely a talking point for any occasion.

With the upcoming spring season comes wedding bells and other auspicious events. Can weddings be complete without the usual Kanjivarams on display? Bright colors like lime green, turquoise blue, and pastels like pink and lavender with elegantly woven borders are all the rage this season. Must-have wedding colors like reds, yellows, and greens, or a combination of them, are always preferred.

Kanjivaram pattus or Kanchipuram silks also come in modern designs and patterns that can even be used as everyday wear or corporate wear. Half and half saree are also in fashion especially among today’s youth, a combination of colors or designs that come together on each half of the saree. In addition to the colors, the half and half saree have rare combinations such as printed or hand-painted designs on one part of the saree combined with embroidery or cutouts on the pallu. This concept is quite popular in Kanjivaram silks. The trend is to personalize and bring together two unique technical designs in one saree.
